US Department of Justice commends Prosecutor’s Office for cooperation in fight against terrorism, detaining wanted individual

The US Department of Justice commended the Georgian Prosecutor’s Office for cooperation in the fight against terrorism and detaining a wanted individual.

According to the Prosecutor’s Office, the FBI New York Department posted the photo of an extradited individual from Georgia on the X Platform acknowledging the fact that he is facing justice after a ten-year manhunt.

“Davud Ansariy, a citizen of Uzbekistan and naturalized citizen of the United States, will be arraigned in federal court in Brooklyn this afternoon on an indictment charging him with one count of conspiring and one count of attempting to provide material support to the Islamic State of Iraq and al-Sham (ISIS) and Al-Nusrah Front (ANF).

Ansariy was extradited to the Eastern District of New York from the country of Georgia on September 23, 2026, where he was arrested in August 2026,” reads the information.

Davud Ansariy fled from the US in 2016 in the direction of Turkey and had been wanted since then.

Through cooperation between the Prosecutor’s Office of Georgia and the U.S. Department of Justice, the Prosecutor’s Office arrested an individual on the territory of Georgia and, in compliance with the relevant procedures, handed the person over to the United States.
