US Chargé d'Affaires in Ukraine – Sanctions imposed against Russia are not enough
Sanctions imposed against Russia are not enough since we have not seen Russia leave either Donbas or Crimea so far – US Chargé d’Affaires in Ukraine William Taylor said in an interview with Georgian First Channel.
Taylor said that the sanctions aimed at inflicting pain to Russia so that it stopped aggressive activities and that is why they had been imposed by the US, Europe, Australia, Japan, Canada and other countries.
However, Taylor said he believed that the international community could impose wider sanctions against Russia that could be visa limitations or freezing bonds.
“One of the stronger sanctions for Russia could be its expulsion from the international financial system. This can be destructive for the country. . . . This could be a price for Putin,” Taylor said.
In the interview with Georgian First Channel, US Chargé d’Affaires in Ukraine also talked about the commitment taken at the Bucharest Summit. He underlined that Russian aggression and its military presence in the occupied territories of Georgia and Ukraine remained the main challenge for both countries to become NATO members.
Recently US President Donald Trump said that he could get involved in Ukraine peace negotiations if the other negotiation participants need him.
