UNM’s Parulava: We backed Viktor Orbán’s defeat; Hungarian people should judge Péter Magyar’s decisions
“We were backing the Hungarian people, we were backing the defeat of Viktor Orbán, and now it is up to the Hungarian people to judge Péter Magyar’s decisions,” stated Lasha Parulava, a member of the United National Movement.
Lasha Parulava was asked why the Georgian opposition backed Péter Magyar in the Hungarian elections, given that a clause accelerating Ukraine’s EU accession was today removed from the EU summit declaration at Magyar’s request.
Parulava maintained that Ukraine deserves a European perspective and EU membership, asserting that it will become not just a member, but a primary flagship within the EU.
“We were backing the Hungarian people, who wanted Orbán defeated. And yes, Orbán was the main partner, the political godfather of Ivanishvili; he lobbied against targeted sanctions being imposed on high-ranking Georgian Dream officials, and he obstructed every decision needed by our people and our country. Therefore, we have been backing the Hungarian people and supporting Orbán’s defeat, and now the Hungarian people will judge Péter Magyar’s decisions. Believe me, the Hungarian people are best placed to evaluate Magyar’s choices.
I agree with you that Ukraine deserves a European perspective and European Union membership, and of course, that is exactly what will happen. Ukraine is the frontline of European security; it is protecting Europe’s safety, and yes, it will not just be a member; it will be a major flagship within the European Union,” Parulava stated.
