UNM’s Bokuchava: UNM interim body created for six months; I do not see myself in this structure, will stay as Political Council member

Tina Bokuchava, acting chairperson of the United National Movement (UNM), has stated that she has no intention of leaving the party and will remain a rank-and-file member of its Political Council. Bokuchava made these comments to journalists ahead of the UNM party congress.

“I have come to the United National Movement congress for three reasons. Firstly, to express my gratitude to our supporters and the people serving as delegates today, for the trust they placed in me two years ago to serve the party as chairperson. That was the most important thing for me today.

The second reason is that, for me, the fight itself is paramount; titles and positions have never mattered. What truly matters is the fight, truth, dignity, and the victory we must all achieve together.

Thirdly, I am here today to offer my best wishes to those assuming the responsibility of leading the United National Movement at today’s congress. I received offers today regarding certain positions, but I believe the right course for me now is to continue fighting for a better future for my country as a rank-and-file member of the UNM Political Council. I specifically requested that my name not be put forward to avoid any embarrassment on the matter. As has been explained repeatedly, this is an interim body, a temporary structure created for six months. Consequently, I do not see myself in an interim governing structure.

Let me make it absolutely clear to critics, supporters, and above all, to the members of the United National Movement, alongside whom I have fought heart and soul since 2012 for a better future for this country, that I have no intention of leaving the party. I am remaining a member of the body that I consider to be the main political organ in this party, as in democratic parties generally, because it is the most representative body,” Tina Bokuchava stated.
