“Today marks the 13th working congress of the United National Movement, where representatives of our district, regional, and Tbilisi organisations will elect the party’s temporary governing council,” one of the leaders of the United National Movement, Ana Tsitlidze, informed journalists ahead of the congress.

She noted that nominations have already been submitted, with candidate identities set to be announced shortly.

“I cannot discuss the candidates before the opening of the congress, though I can confirm that nominations have been formally submitted. Fifteen members of the Political Council held the right to propose candidates, with each permitted to nominate three individuals. In line with established procedure, the slate of candidates will be put to the floor, and the congress will decide on specific nominees. Once a decision is reached, the identities of those endorsed by the congress will be made public,” stated Tsitlidze.

In response to a question regarding whether acting UNM Chair Tina Bokuchava would attend the gathering, Tsitlidze remarked that her attendance would be highly desirable.

“We would certainly hope she attends, as Tina is an integral part of this party. This is especially so given that for two years, the outgoing leadership, of which Tina was a key part, managed the party through extremely challenging times despite numerous obstacles. Naturally, it is our wish that Tina attends this congress, although I do not currently have information on whether she will be present,” Tsitlidze noted.
