UNM: US Ambassador sees lack of public confidence in elections

“I think the main message I heard in the US Ambassador’s interview with Formula TV Company is that the public has completely lost confidence in the elections, which is a challenge for democracy today,” Salome Samadashvili, a member of the United National Movement, said.

According to her, the main task is to return the concept of elections and restore public confidence.

“The agreed position of the opposition is clear. The opposition will engage in the parliamentary work if the government and we agree on the action plan – the change of political environment and restoration of confidence in the elections. The release of prisoners, election administration reform, and the deal to hold new snap elections are the conditions for the agreement. If these conditions are met, it is clear that we want to work and, consequently, to restore the democratic process in the country,” Samadashvili said.

The US Ambassador Kelly Degnan spoke to Georgian TV Company Formula on Wednesday about the need for dialogue and agreement between the ruling party and the opposition.
