Chairs of the Tbilisi Office of the opposition United National Movement (UNM) party released a joint statement demanding the resignation of UNM chair Levan Khabeishvili and turning the party into an “emergency working mode” for a “full reset” to take place.
According to the statement, UNM Chair Levan Khabeishvili and the party management took incorrect steps for the last ten months, going against the party’s unity and strengthening, which led to the political crisis.
The signatories believe that the UNM Chair, Levan Khabeishvili, should resign and a Council of Accord, staffed through a parity principle, be established ahead of the decisive 2024 parliamentary elections and the fight against the “Russian regime.”
Also, the UNM Congress should convene shortly to approve the Council and amendments to the party’s general regulations.
Members of the UNM Faction in city assemblies of several regions urged Levan Khabeishvili to resign on November 28.
