Members of the opposition United National Movement (UNM) party rallied outside the Mayor’s office in Zestaphoni, western Georgia, before heading for Kutaisi later this afternoon, demanding jailed ex-president Mikheil Saakashvili’s release.
The UNM Chair Levan Khabeishvili vowed to hold protests under the slogan “Freedom to Misha” in all cities, including Georgia’s capital Tbilisi.
“Representatives of the Russian Dream should brace themselves for serious consequences,” Khabeishvili warned.
According to the UNM Chair, Georgian Dream Chair Irakli Kobakhidze “voices Russian propaganda,” while Ukraine’s courageous leader Zelenskyy has global support in the struggle against evil, which will be defeated.
“No matter what Kobakhidze says, peace and kindness will definitely win, and we should respond to the Russian agents and the Kremlin’s narrative. These protests are to ensure the European future of our country, instead of handing it over to Russians,” Khabeishvili stated.
The party held a rally at the mayor’s office in Khelvachauri, Adjara, earlier on Thursday. The United National Movement (UNM) opposition party announced everyday rallies across Georgia after the Tbilisi City Court denied to free ex-President Mikheil Saakashvili or to defer his jail term on February 6.
