UNM Chair’s Lawyer: Prosecutor’s Office to apply to court, depends on government

The Prosecutor’s Office has to apply to the court to demand annulling or changing the imprisonment into case of Nika Melia, Chairman of the opposition United National Movement (UNM) party. When it will do so depends on the government, said Giorgi Kondakhishvili, UNM Chair’s lawyer.

According to the lawyer, Melia’s lawyers did not participate in the negotiations among the government, EU and Prosecutor’s Office. Therefore, the details are unknown to him.

Giorgi Kondakhishvili further informed that Nika Melia would not be able to attend the court trial since he was removed from the hall during the previous court process.

“Nika Melia will be released from unlawful imprisonment. It does not actually matter whether or not he will be present during his court process,” Kondakhishvili said.

The bail of Nika Melia, Chairman of the opposition United National Movement (UNM) party in the amount of 40 thousand GEL is paid, the European Union Delegation in Georgia said on its webpage earlier on Saturday.
