UNM Chair urges President to release Saakashvili and allow him to run for elections
Levan Khabeishvili, Chairman of the United National Movement, has urged the Georgian President to free imprisoned ex-president Mikheil Saakashvili and enable him to compete in the 2024 elections.
“The European Parliament’s report clearly mentioned the political persecution of President Saakashvili, and it is also mentioned that Salome Zourabichvili can play a positive role by releasing him,” Khabeishvili noted.
“We appeal to Salome Zourabichvili for a simple reason: she occasionally speaks European, although we know from her actions that she does nothing to ensure that there is no polarisation in the country, no political exiles, and no illegal prisoners, and thus she must make the only correct decision and release President Saakashvili; a person who is serving an absolutely unjust sentence,” Khabeishvili continued.
