UNM Chair stresses importance of Saakashvili's release for fair 2024 elections

Levan Khabeishvili, the chair of the opposition United National Movement party, emphasized the importance of jailed ex-President Mikheil Saakashvili’s freedom for the 2024 elections.

“Thousands of our fellow citizens are queuing to leave their signatures, supporting President Mikheil Saakashvili’s release. It is crucial for the fairness of the 2024 elections that the main opposition leader, Mikheil Saakashvili, is released. Salome Zourabichvili can play a pivotal role in achieving this,” he stated.

Khabeishvili argued that Saakashvili’s release is crucial for a competitive and fair electoral process.

“Society demands it, and you can witness the action of the people. We plan to gather over one hundred thousand signatures, urging President Zourabichvili to ensure a minimally fair electoral environment and release Ivanishvili’s main opponent, President Saakashvili. It is inconceivable to have a competition where two or more contenders participate, and one is ‘stolen’ and unjustly imprisoned by Ivanishvili. The freedom of Mikheil Saakashvili holds utmost importance,” he added.
