Unity-National Movement's Vashadze declares protesters act lawfully
Some part of opposition leaders and protest participants remain on Melikishvili Avenue. Giorgi Vashadze, the leader of the Unity-National Movement unity, addressed the protesters and presented them with an action plan.
“We will not allow the police to detain us. We are fully compliant with the law; they are the ones violating it. We do not engage with them; if they attempt to advance, we will simply relocate. This is the tactic of our mobile protest. Our objective is being achieved: Melikishvili Avenue is currently closed to traffic,” he declared.
According to Vashadze, the protesters will not tire easily, and the opposition will make prompt decisions to sustain uninterrupted demonstrations.
“This is not a short-term protest, and we have various strategies in place. We have carefully considered our actions and are making quick decisions on-site to maintain continuous protests. A non-stop demonstration is crucial; it exhausts the system while simultaneously strengthening our resolve,” he emphasized.
Giorgi Vashadze expressed gratitude to the protesters who believe in “Georgia’s European future and the vision of a strong Georgia,” particularly thanking the youth for their involvement.
“This ongoing protest has two primary goals: to unite society within the country and to seek more robust internal support to annul the so-called special operation known as ‘elections’ and hold new elections. We aim to secure Georgia’s membership in the EU and to establish a country free of Bidzina Ivanishvili,” he stated.
In the early morning, the Ministry of Internal Affairs (MIA) urged protesters and organizers gathered at Tbilisi State University (TSU) to clear the area of any temporary structures within 15 minutes and relocate to another site to express their dissent legally. Police subsequently cleared the road and removed several protesters from the area.
