Unity-National Movement claims 34 current MPs filed lawsuit with Constitutional Court
“Thirty-four current MPs have filed a lawsuit with the Constitutional Court, and if the court dismisses the complaint, it will be yet another unconstitutional decision,” said Levan Bezhashvili, a member of the Unity-National Movement.
According to Bezhashvili, the Parliament’s Mandates Commission will be required not to register any of the 150 MP candidates due to the ongoing legal dispute.
“We are challenging the constitutionality of the election results and the regulatory norms of the October 26 elections, which violated the constitutional rights of hundreds of thousands of Georgian citizens. As a result of this ongoing dispute in the court, the Mandates Commission must refrain from registering any of the 150 MP candidates. If the Constitutional Court dismisses our complaint, it will be yet another unconstitutional ruling, further confirming that the country lacks a functioning Constitutional Court,” he stated.
On November 19, Georgian President Salome Zourabichvili also filed a lawsuit with the Constitutional Court of Georgia, seeking to have the final results of the October 26 parliamentary elections declared unconstitutional.
