United Airports of Georgia: New Mestia and Telavi terminals to support domestic tourism growth

The construction of new passenger terminals at the domestic airports of Mestia and Telavi will have a positive impact on the growth of domestic tourism and economic development, Levan Mosheshvili, head of the United Airports of Georgia, said.

According to Mosheshvili, the United Airports of Georgia has already announced tenders for the construction of passenger terminals at both airports.

“The decision has been prompted by growing tourist flows in the country and an increase in domestic passenger traffic. The Mestia Airport terminal was commissioned in 2010. Today, passenger traffic to Mestia has increased to such an extent that the existing space no longer allows us to provide greater comfort to travelers.

“Therefore, we decided that Mestia Airport should have a new, modernly designed and larger terminal. This will have a positive impact on the development of the region, both from a tourism and economic perspective,” the head of the United Airports of Georgia said.

Mosheshvili said the construction of a new passenger terminal would effectively “breathe new life” into Telavi Airport.

“As for Telavi Airport, it has remained non-operational for years. With the construction of a new passenger terminal, we are effectively giving Telavi Airport a new lease of life. This, in turn, will contribute to greater mobility within the country and help increase tourist flows to the Kakheti region,” Mosheshvili said.
