UN Tourism Secretary-General: Georgia recorded tourism growth despite regional challenges

“I believe the government is doing a lot to promote the country and ensure that Georgia receives the attention it deserves,” UN Tourism Secretary-General Sheikha Nasser Al Nuwais said following her meetings in Georgia.

According to Al Nuwais, this was her first visit to Georgia, and specifically Tbilisi, since taking office.

“We had an excellent meeting with representatives of the private sector, particularly those working in tourism. It was very interesting for us to hear their views and learn about the growth Georgia has experienced over the years.

There was significant growth in 2025 compared with 2024. The country hosted approximately 8 million international visitors. Despite the geopolitical challenges in the Middle East, Georgia was still able to record growth in the first half of 2026, which is excellent,” Sheikha Nasser Al Nuwais said.
