UK Embassy: Britain sanctions oil tanker SILVAR, which visited Georgian port earlier this year

“Today, the UK announced major new sanctions targeting those who are enabling Putin’s illegal war in Ukraine. This includes sanctions against Russia’s decrepit shadow fleet, military procurement supply chains and illicit finance networks used to circumvent sanctions,” the British Embassy in Georgia wrote on its social network.

The statement reads that the sanction package also included the ship SILVAR, which was in a Georgian port at the beginning of the year.

“Today, the UK announced major new sanctions targeting those who are enabling Putin’s illegal war in Ukraine. This includes sanctions against Russia’s decrepit shadow fleet, military procurement supply chains and illicit finance networks used to circumvent sanctions.

The package also targets the vessel SILVAR, which accessed a Georgian port earlier this year.

The UK has now sanctioned almost 500 individuals and entities under our Russia sanctions regime in 2026 alone,” the embassy said in a statement.
