U.S. officials suspect Russia is spreading disinformation about the coronavirus on its social networks, foreign media reports.

The State Department says this disinformation campaign aims to convince the users that the United States is behind the coronavirus outbreak, and to damage the U.S. image.

Russian Foreign Ministry spokeswoman Maria Zakharova echoed this information and assessed it as a fake story.

Over 2,000 people have died from the novel coronavirus, more than 76,000 people are infected.
