Two detained for ilegally crossing the Georgian-Turkish border

Officers of the Border Police of the Ministry of Internal Affairs have detained two individuals — H.S. (born in 1983) and M.K. (born in 1969) — for illegally crossing the state border from Turkey into Georgia. The detentions took place as a result of operational and investigative measures conducted by the Akhaltsikhe Division.

According to the Border Police, the offense is punishable by up to five years of imprisonment.

“The investigation has established that the detainees bypassed the official checkpoint and unlawfully crossed the Georgian state border from the Republic of Turkey,” the agency said in a statement.

The investigation is ongoing under Part 1 of Article 344 of the Criminal Code of Georgia, which pertains to the illegal crossing of the state border.
