Turkish FM: Georgia, our neighbor, strategic partner country, retains particular place
“Georgia, our neighbor and strategic partner country, retains a particular place,” said Turkish Foreign Minister Hakan Fidan after meeting his Georgian colleague Ilia Darchiashvili in Turkey.
“We have close cooperation in energy and transport. I would like to emphasize that our bilateral relations are developing excellently. Political, economic, cultural, and people-to-people relations are at the highest level,” Fidan stated.
Turkish FM went on to explain that for the past 15 years, Turkey has been Georgia’s greatest trading partner.
“Last year, the trade turnover increased to three billion dollars and thus we reached the target. Currently, our goal is to increase the trade turnover to five billion dollars. We also talked about this topic,” he noted.
According to the Turkish official, the duo also discussed the ongoing developments in Abkhazia and Tskhinvali/South Ossetia region.
“We support the peaceful resolution of the conflict in these regions. We support the sovereignty and territorial integrity of Georgia, within its internationally recognized borders,” he added.
