Tsulukiani to Gakharia: Stop acting as if we gouged out people's eyes

“You have claimed in every interview that you made all the decisions regarding the operation and the use of everything, including bullets,” stated Tea Tsulukiani, chairperson of the temporary investigative commission of Parliament, while addressing former Minister of Internal Affairs and Prime Minister Giorgi Gakharia during the commission’s questioning.

Tsulukiani pointed out that Gakharia was now shifting the blame to specific police officers for using rubber bullets without orders.

“Now you are asserting that you did not give this specific order. I’m sorry, but given the circumstances, it seems you are blaming individual officers for taking matters into their own hands without orders and gouging out people’s eyes. You need to clarify your position: it was either your order or it wasn’t. In interviews, you consistently state, ‘I gave this order, and I am responsible for everything.’ I, personally, find it difficult to reconcile these conflicting statements,” Tsulukiani stated.

She concluded saying: “Stop acting as if we gouged out people’s eyes.”
