Tsotne Ivanishvili: Debates best solution to polarization, common values, love for motheland of paramount significance

“Debates and listening to the opposing viewpoints are the best solution to polarization,” said Tsotne Ivanishvili at the Georgian Dream’s Youth Organization Conference, responding to the question of facing polarization.

“If two people truly love their homeland, no matter how different their opinions, conversation, discussion, and debate can bring a lot of good. And, on the contrary, when an individual rejoices in a bad event of the country and finds good as miserable, theres is no point in having a talk with such a person. Therefore, I would say that the result can be achieved if united by common values, love for our motherland. I find it very regrettable that a discussion or debate, which may not even have begun, ends with shouts of “Kotsi”, “Russian”, “Akatsuki”, “Natsi”, instead of listening to each other’s arguments and forming a logical chain,” he said.

According to Tsotne Ivanishvili, polarization should be replaced with discussion.

“I am convinced that love for the motherland unites many in our country, and we will manage to talk more, and replace this artificially created polarization with a debate, which I believe has no alternative. I am happy to be here today, to have the opportunity to exchange viewpoints. I hope many more talks and meetings will be held, whether they are organized on the part of Georgian Dream’s or other youngsters. I hope dialogue will become frequent and I am optimistic since debates and discussions are truly beneficial means out of the artificially-created polarization,” he said.
