Transparency of Foreign Influence, Foreign Agents Registration Act bills submitted to Legal Affairs Committee
The Transparency of Foreign Influence and Foreign Agents Registration Act bills have been submitted to the parliamentary Legal Affairs Committee for revision.
The joint sitting of the parliamentary Foreign Affairs and Defense and Security committees completed their discussion late on March 2. Chairman of Foreign Affairs Committee Nikoloz Samkharadze asked the lawmakers to support the bills to proceed forward, noting the terms provided in the bill required further discussion.
The Legal Affairs Committee is scheduled to review the bills next week. The bills will then be heard with the first reading at the plenary sitting.
The parliamentary People’s Power faction drafted the bill on Transparency of Foreign Influence. It envisages registration of all legal persons and media outlets the 20% revenues of which are financed by foreign powers.
The People’s Power later initiated another bill Foreign Agents Registration Act, which it said is the exact translation of the American law FARA.
