Ten people sent behind bars in Defense Ministry's sergeant case

Ten people were imprisoned for illegal arrest, premeditated murder and exceeding duties in the case of Roin Shavadze, a brigade sergeant of the Ministry of Defense.

Judge Ketevan Jachvadze announced the decision. Eight defendants attended the trial, two are wanted.

The prosecution demanded that the detainees be sentenced to prison, while the defence insisted on their release in return for 10-15 thousand GEL bail.

The Prosecutor’s Office launched the criminal prosecution against 10 people on charges of illegal detention, premeditated murder and exceeding official authorities on July 28 in the case of Roin Shavadze, a brigade sergeant of the Ministry of Defense, a participant in the August 2008 Russia-Georgia war.
