Tbilisi Mayor: Visits of Georgian and Azerbaijani leaders contribute to deepening friendly relations between countries

“Deepening peaceful and friendly relations between countries in the region has no alternative,” said Tbilisi Mayor Kakha Kaladze, assessing the visit of Azerbaijani President Ilham Aliyev to Georgia.

“The relationship and strategic partnership between Georgia and Azerbaijan is important. I welcome this visit. Taking into account processes in the Middle East. peace has no alternative. We have friendly relations with Azerbaijan, and similar visits from Georgian and Azerbaijani leaders contribute to deepening friendly relations,” he said.

According to Kakha Kaladze, unlike the President of Azerbaijan, some European politicians deliberately disregard Georgia’s importance in the Middle Corridor.

“Our geopolitical location is significant for everyone, and Georgia’s involvement in the Middle Corridor is desirable. The reason why some European politicians do not mention Georgia’s role in this regard is a political decision. We have seen blackmail, offence and menacing toward Georgia. This attitude is unacceptable. We know the reason for this – we did not take steps that would harm the country’s economic development and the Georgian people. That is why they have an aggressive attitude towards Georgia,” he said.

President of Azerbaijan, Ilham Aliyev, paid a visit to Georgia on April 6.
