Tbilisi Mayor: Transportation of explosives may be linked to elections

The transportation of explosives on the orders of the Ukrainian special services may be linked to the upcoming elections, and nothing can be ruled out, Tbilisi Mayor Kakha Kaladze stated.

Answering journalists’ questions, Kaladze claimed that certain high-ranking Ukrainian officials are the same people who have been causing misery to Georgians for years.

“Nothing can be ruled out, considering who holds high positions in Ukraine. Are they not the same people who caused suffering in Georgia for years? If any violations of human rights occurred, they were involved. Are these not the same people now in high positions there?” said the Mayor.

He added that many details will be revealed in the ongoing investigation.

“A lot will come to light regarding this case. The investigation is underway. Of course, the situation is difficult, but I want to thank the employees of the Security Service. An important operation was carried out, preventive measures are crucial. Let’s wait,” Kaladze noted.

Regarding a social media post written by the wife of Bacho Akhalaia, the former Defense Minister, Kaladze said it also confirms preparations for a coup attempt.

“The fact that discussions and preparations for a coup d’état were underway has been confirmed, at least by this statement. There are still many questions, and the relevant agencies are working in this direction. I will refrain from further comment—let’s wait for the investigation and official explanations,” the Mayor added.
