“A grand amusement park will be established in Tbilisi’s Dendrological Park, with Bidzina Ivanishvili’s family making a significant contribution to its construction and bearing substantial costs,” the capital’s incumbent Mayor, Kakha Kaladze, stated in a video address on the social network Facebook.
As he noted, in 2017, when the Dendrological Park rehabilitation project was announced, the first step in developing the territory was the relocation of the zoo to the area adjacent to the Tbilisi Sea.
According to the Tbilisi Mayor, the amusement park will be unparalleled not only in Georgia but throughout the region, and will be the most extensive park of its kind.
“In the territory adjacent to the Tbilisi Sea, we have the Dendrological Park, which spans approximately 160 hectares. The unique recreational potential and biodiversity of the territory are attractive not only to local residents but also to citizens living in other zones of the capital and to visitors to the city. The park also borders Tbilisi’s new zoo.
In 2017, we assured the public that we would launch a new project, undertaking the necessary works to ensure the preservation of Dendrological Park. However, the first thing we did was to relocate the zoo to this territory.
In the city centre, there is an old zoo that we began relocating several years ago to an area near the Tbilisi Sea, as its condition no longer met modern standards for the well-being of the animals or the comfort of visitors. Accordingly, we planned to relocate the zoo to a territory comprising approximately 50 hectares, which directly borders the Dendrological Park. We want, first and foremost, to complete the zoo relocation and then proceed with the park’s renewal and rehabilitation.
Given that the Tbilisi Sea has become a popular destination for visitors to both the zoo and the Dendrological Park, we have decided to establish a grand amusement park within the Dendrological Park. It will be unlike anything currently available in Georgia or the wider region. It will be the largest entertainment park in the area,” stated Kakha Kaladze.
According to him, experienced specialists in the field will be involved in designing the entertainment park, drawing on models such as Disneyland, Legoland, Universal Studios, and others.
“Bidzina Ivanishvili’s family and the charitable foundation Cartu will make a significant contribution to the park’s construction, and, as with several other projects, will once again bear substantial costs. I would like to take this opportunity to express my gratitude to Bidzina Ivanishvili and his family for the numerous acts of kindness and generosity they have shown to the city.
The entertainment park will be designed by specialists with extensive experience in the field, drawing on models such as Disneyland, Legoland, Universal Studios, and others. The area will be divided into several zones, featuring a variety of attractions such as children’s, extreme, and family zones. Additionally, catering facilities, shops, relaxation areas, a celebration centre, and other amenities will be set up. Particular emphasis will be placed on landscaping and safety,” noted the Tbilisi Mayor.
According to his statement, the existing green cover will be preserved on the territory, additional landscaping work will be carried out, underground utilities will be installed, and all other infrastructure necessary for the park will be put in place.
“Most importantly, the existing vegetation and trees will be preserved. Furthermore, the area will be landscaped further, with a variety of trees and plants introduced. Currently, the site lacks underground utilities, lighting, and other infrastructure, all of which will be installed as part of the project. People of any age will be able to enjoy entertainment and relaxation in the park. Besides the attractions, it will be possible to organise various entertainment events and evenings.
I am confident that, with its diversity and scale, the park will become an attractive location not only for Georgian visitors but will also be actively visited by representatives of neighbouring countries and tourists from various countries around the world, which is excellent,” stated the capital’s Mayor.
Kakha Kaladze once again expressed his gratitude to Bidzina Ivanishvili’s family and noted that, over the coming years, with the support of financial organisations and the central government, many more interesting projects will be implemented.
“We are not satisfied with what we have achieved, and we strive to implement as many interesting projects as possible. Our Tbilisi, renowned for being the greenest and best-maintained city, must meet the needs of people of all ages, whether for relaxation, entertainment, culture, or a variety of other pursuits. This is precisely what we are striving to achieve; we, the municipality, with the support of various financial organisations and the central government.
As I have previously mentioned, the family of Bidzina Ivanishvili will contribute to the realisation of the aforementioned ambitious project. I would like to extend my best wishes for success to our city in the execution of such a significant endeavour. I believe that very soon we shall see many children’s shining eyes; they will become the main heroes of this place and will create unforgettable memories,” declared Kakha Kaladze.
