Tbilisi Mayor praises PM’s UN speech for addressing ‘crucial issues’ facing Georgia’s future

“The Prime Minister addressed all vital matters concerning Georgia and its future, as well as the situation in the region and existing challenges,” Tbilisi Mayor Kakha Kaladze commented on Prime Minister Irakli Kobakhidze’s speech at the 81st session of the United Nations General Assembly.

As Kakha Kaladze noted, the Prime Minister highlighted that Georgia is prepared to utilise every international platform to foster the consolidation of peace in the region.

“We listened with immense pride to the Prime Minister’s address. He touched upon all key issues concerning our country and its future, outlining the regional situation and challenges. The Prime Minister underscored the imperative of achieving global peace.

He addressed our country’s economic development, which is of paramount importance, grounding his points in facts and the concrete economic indicators we have achieved in recent years.

Furthermore, the Prime Minister highlighted the crucial nature of our country’s role in the region. Georgia stands ready to leverage all international platforms to help strengthen regional peace,” stated Kaladze.

According to him, peace has no alternative, and the Georgian population has experienced this truth firsthand.

Speaking on the significance of the Prime Minister’s visit to the United States, the Mayor noted that the Georgian government is ready to turn over a new leaf in relations, stressing that official statements on this matter remain consistent and uncontradictory.

“For us, it is of fundamental importance that relations are friendly, sound, and properly structured in terms of strategic partnership. The Georgian government is ready to take concrete steps to begin relations with a clean slate.

When you call a country a friend yet simultaneously issue calls that would prove ruinous to it, that is not friendship. The goal behind such calls is to compel a small nation to serve external interests, even at its own detriment.

The previous United States administration, under the leadership of the former president, acted unfairly and in an unfriendly manner through its decisions and attitude towards the Georgian people and the state. I believe the current president and administration can rectify this unfair stance very easily,” declared Kaladze.

He added that the Georgian government is doing nothing different from what other sovereign nations, including European states or the United States, do.

“We are safeguarding the country’s sovereignty and the interests of its people, just as other nations do,” the Mayor noted.
