Tbilisi Mayor: Our country's example demonstrates importance of long-term peace

Tbilisi Mayor Kakha Kaladze declares that Georgia needs long-term peace today more than ever, because the country’s economic development is impossible without it. As he noted in response to a relevant question, the President of the United States is trying to achieve peace and end the Russia-Ukraine conflict.

“Of course, there is a danger of being drawn into war until the Russia-Ukraine war ends. We must be very careful not to allow anyone to use our country for their own interests. What can I tell you about Europe, but the United States is really trying to achieve peace. Their main message was precisely about ‘seeking peace.’ Apart from the radicals and troublemakers who are represented in Georgia, we all agree that peace has no alternative.

I still speak about my own country: today, Georgia needs long-term peace more than ever, because it brings the country’s economic development and strengthening. This is very precious to us. Already throughout the world, the majority of people and politicians see how important it is to achieve peace,” Kakha Kaladze declared.

In Kaladze’s assessment, there are major countries that have their own interests regarding Georgia, but the Georgian people must protect their own interests.

“I proceed from the messages being made by the U.S. and President Trump, and what messages sound from representatives of some European countries. I believe everyone, especially in Georgia, recognises the importance of the principled stance we upheld, that of maintaining peace and stability, even as direct calls were broadcast on television urging that bombs should fall, which would have been better than Georgian Dream’s policy.

Everyone became convinced that peace and tranquillity have no alternative. There are major countries that have their own interests, including regarding Georgia. America, Russia, and everyone have their own interest. We must think about our own country and people, because neither Americans, nor Europeans, nor Russians will come to advance our country’s interests.

The veiled ‘messages’ we hear, claiming they love Georgia so much and care so much about its future, while at the same time threatening us in their offices that we would have war and join sanctions, this is reality, and the Georgian people must know the truth,” the Tbilisi Mayor noted.

Kakha Kaladze wished Ukraine peace and declared that the most important thing today is ending the war.

“I wish Ukraine peace and tranquillity. Today, the most important thing is for a peace agreement to be reached and the war to end, because peace has no alternative. We became convinced through our own country’s example and felt how important it is to maintain long-term peace in the country,” Kakha Kaladze declared.
