Tbilisi Mayor: Georgians to feel with pride hearing national football team say "I am Georgia"
Tbilisi Mayor Kakha Kaladze released his video address as the Georgian national football team prepares to debut at the UEFA EURO 2024.
Kakha Kaladze wished success to the football players, saying observing the national uniform at the EURO 2024 was a victory for each Georgian.
“I imagine what is happening in Georgia’s capital,'” said Kakha Kaladze, quoting sports commentator Kote Makharadze’s words announced on May 13, 1981, the date which is memorable for Georgian football.
“I can imagine how proud Tbilisi and Georgia will feel today when the Georgian national team arrives at the match, which became the greatest achievement in the history of Georgian football, in the city of Dortmund, Germany, and chants – I am Georgia!
Football is not just a sport. It symbolizes teamwork, unity, struggle, effort, discipline, talent and hard work. All these qualities are organic and valuable for our people. Football is a sport which is associated with freedom and victory. Seeing national football uniforms worn at the European Championships is a victory for each Georgian.
Today, in Dortmund, our fellows will play on behalf of Georgia. I want to wish success to our national team. Driven by dedication and the spirit to struggle, we will win, I’m sure. Entire Georgia backs you. Victory to you!” said Kakha Kaladze.
The Georgian national football team will debut today at the UEFA EURO 2024 in a match against Turkey in Dortmund, Germany.
