Tbilisi Mayor: Georgia surpasses European nations in Freedom Index, ensuring highest level of freedom of speech
“I am pleased that freedom of expression is protected at the highest level in our country,” said Kakha Kaladze, Mayor of Tbilisi.
According to Kaladze, Georgia ranks 41st in the Freedom of Expression Index, based on a World Bank report, which he attributes to the “achievements of the current government and a commitment that will persist in the future.”
“Many refuse to acknowledge this reality and seek to change it. There are ongoing attempts to mislead the Georgian people. We have made significant progress in various areas over the past few years; we outperform those countries that were granted EU candidate status, as well as several European nations that have exhibited unjust attitudes toward Georgia.
I take pride in the fact that freedom of expression is secure in our nation. The business environment is free, and the government does not engage in the same oppressive practices seen during Saakashvili’s bloody regime, where business assets were unjustly seized. Consider the current conditions in prisons and the treatment of individuals with differing viewpoints. We have made strides in multiple directions and will continue on this path,” he emphasized.
