Tbilisi Mayor: Football unites Georgia; country has vast potential

“We have a talented generation of footballers and we managed to succeed with a correct state policy that was unimaginable several years ago,” said Tbilisi Mayor Kakha Kaladze at the municipal government meeting.

Tbilisi Mayor congratulated the national football team on qualifying for the 1/8 finals of the UEFA EURO 2024.

“Our fellows demonstrated the best game. I want to thank all of them and wish them success in the next match. I commend all the fans who supported the team in Germany, Georgia and other countries. It was great support and enthusiasm. Football managed to unite the country once again and gave the feeling of pride that this tiny country has vast potential,” he said.

Tbilisi Mayor spoke about the government’s support of Georgian sports and promotion of healthy lifestyle. He noted that Bidzina Ivanishvili, Honorable Chair of the ruling Georgian Dream (GD) party, would grant the national team GEL 30 million.

“Don’t stop Georgia and go forward,” he added.

Kakha Kaladze further said that Georgian football fans would have the opportunity to watch the next Georgia vs Spain match on large TV screens at the Mikheil Meskhi Stadium on June 30. Public transport will be available until late and attendance is free.
