Tbilisi Mayor believes Georgian football team's fight will prompt Georgians to proudly say "We are Georgia!"

“What will happen on the football field tonight is more than football. I believe the fight of our fellows will prompt Georgians to proudly say: we are here, We are Georgia!” wrote Tbilisi Mayor Kakha Kaladze on Facebook.

“Today is a significant day in the history of Georgian football. What is going to happen on the football field is more than football.

Today, we once again agree that when we unite with a common goal, common aspirations, spirit to fight and belief in success, we win and continue to develop.

Georgia’s history confirms that. This dedication helped our country to survive for centuries and create a unique culture, and history, and this gave it a better future.

I believe today’s fight of our fellows will fill us with pride and prompt us to say: We are here, we are Georgia, don’t stop Georgia!” he said.

Georgia will face Spain in the 1/8 finals of the UEFA EURO 2024 on June 30 in Cologne, Germany.

The match will kick off at 11 p.m. Tbilisi time.
