Tbilisi hosts Refugee Forum
The Refugee Forum, organized by the Georgian Ministry of Foreign Affairs and the United Nations High Commissioner for Refugees (UNHCR) with the support of the Tbilisi City Assembly (Sakrebulo), was held in Tbilisi.
Lasha Darsalia, Deputy Foreign Minister, and Gillian Triggs, UN Assistant Secretary-General and Assistant High Commissioner for Protection with UNHCR, opened the forum.
Lasha Darsalia elaborated on the problems facing the refugees and the efforts of the international community in their resolution, having stressed the humanitarian needs and rights of IDPs from Georgia’s occupied regions.
The Deputy FM remarked on the fulfilment of Georgia’s taken commitments within the framework of the first Global Refugee Forum of 2019 in Geneva.
The participants also heard stories of Ukrainian refugees who were assisted in Georgia with the support and involvement of the government, private sector and civic society.
