Tbilisi City Court sentences Georgian citizen to 13 years for terrorism-related crimes
The Tbilisi City Court has found a Georgian citizen guilty of joining a foreign terrorist organisation and aiding terrorist activities, fully upholding the evidence presented by the Prosecutor’s Office.
According to the case materials, the investigation confirmed that the defendant travelled to Syria in 2014, where he joined the terrorist organisation Islamic State and actively took part in hostilities. The court also established that he was engaged in propaganda activities, distributing photos and videos online featuring Islamic State symbols and calls to join the group.
The defendant was charged in absentia under Article 328 of the Criminal Code of Georgia, which covers membership in a foreign terrorist organisation and assistance in terrorist activities.
Based on the presented evidence, the Tbilisi City Court sentenced the defendant to 13 years in prison.
