Tbilisi City Court orders Mikheil Saakashvili and Teimuraz Janashia to pay up to GEL 9 million to state budget
The Tbilisi City Court has granted the request of the Ministry of Finance in the case concerning the embezzlement of public funds, ordering former President Mikheil Saakashvili and ex-Head of the State Special Protection Service, Teimuraz Janashia, to repay up to GEL 9 million to the state budget.
Judge Aleksandre Gzirishvili delivered the ruling.
For context, former President Mikheil Saakashvili was sentenced to nine years’ imprisonment for the embezzlement of a substantial sum of public money on March 12, 2025. The court also found Teimuraz Janashia, the former head of the Special State Protection Service, guilty in relation to the same case. However, Janashia’s charges were reclassified, and he was convicted of abuse of official authority, resulting in a fine of GEL 300,000.
