Tbilisi City Council Chair presents 2025–2026 activity report
Tbilisi City Council Chair and Mtatsminda district majoritarian representative Zurab Abashidze has presented his activity report for 2025–2026 to local residents, Tbilisi City Council reported.
Abashidze reviewed the work of the City Council during the reporting period, providing information on Council and Bureau sessions, adopted acts and the activities of the parliamentary faction.
As a member of the Council’s Urban Planning and Municipal Services Committee and Property Management and Finance and Budget Committee, he also discussed the work of these bodies and the issues considered.
Abashidze briefed residents on international meetings he attended in 2025–2026, including sessions of the Congress of Local and Regional Authorities of the Council of Europe and its Monitoring Committee.
He also outlined his work at the National Association of Local Authorities of Georgia (NALAG). At the Association’s eighth National Assembly, Abashidze was elected First Vice-President with majority support. He has since participated in meetings of NALAG’s Executive Board in that capacity. He also attended the Water Future Forum and the Georgia Economic Forum.
In addition to his work at the City Council, Abashidze presented the activities of the Mtatsminda majoritarian office. During the reporting period, he met with 370 citizens, helped 93 people obtain funding for medication and assisted 63 people in applying for targeted financial aid. He also helped residents address a range of other issues.
Abashidze highlighted ongoing and completed projects in the electoral district, including road resurfacing, drainage network improvements, and the development of public squares and sports grounds.
He also reported on work carried out in territories incorporated into Mtatsminda district. A total of 18,262 square meters of road surface was laid in sections of Kojori and Tabakhmela. Retaining walls were installed at several locations in Tabakhmela and Okrokana, while recreational and sports spaces were developed in the newly incorporated areas.
Abashidze also discussed projects implemented under homeowners’ association and co-financing programmes. These included the renovation of roofs, elevators and building entrances at various addresses.
Among the major completed projects, he highlighted the rehabilitation of a residential building on Griboedov Street that is listed as a cultural heritage monument. The project was completed during the reporting period and improved living conditions for 15 families.
Regarding major infrastructure projects in Mtatsminda, Abashidze provided updates on ongoing rehabilitation works on Rustaveli Avenue and Sulkhan-Saba, Ingorokva and Aleksandre Chavchavadze streets.
Abashidze said the main measure of the City Council’s and majoritarian representatives’ work was not the number of decisions adopted, but their results. He stressed the importance of improving residents’ living environments, protecting their interests and responding effectively to the city’s needs.
“Of course, many challenges remain and much work still needs to be done. However, it is important to have a clear goal, a sense of responsibility and an approach focused on results. I thank every member of the City Council, the relevant municipal services, the Mtatsminda district administration and everyone involved in this work.
“I would especially like to thank Tbilisi residents for their trust, active engagement and feedback, which helps us better understand the city’s needs. Our main goal remains unchanged: to leave future generations a Tbilisi that preserves its history, develops in line with modern standards and cares for every citizen,” Abashidze said.
The presentation was attended by local residents, City Council members, Mtatsminda district head Davit Kirkitadze, his deputy and representatives of the district administration.
