Supreme Court Judges' Conference to elect new Council members, Council Secretary

The 32nd conference of judges will take place on March 24, following a decision made during the meeting of the administrative committee of the Supreme Court Judges’ Conference.

During the conference, seven agenda items will be discussed, including the election of two new judge members of the Supreme Council of Justice. This became necessary due to the resignation of Paata Silagadze and Badri Shonia from their positions on the Council, as they participated in the selection competition for judges of the Supreme Court.

Any judge attending the conference has the right to nominate a candidate for the vacant positions on the Council. The election will be conducted through secret voting, requiring a two-thirds majority of the members present for a candidate to be elected.

Additionally, the selection of the secretary of the Council of Justice is planned for the conference. The current secretary, Nikoloz Marsagishvili, is nearing the end of his four-year term, and nominations for his successor will be accepted from judges present at the conference. The election process will also involve secret voting and a two-thirds majority requirement.

Apart from these agenda items, discussions regarding recent developments within the court system are anticipated, including potential discussions on the vetting system.
