Strategy Aghmashenebeli says Georgia's prospect is national consolidation, pro-western forces in gov't
“National consolidation, change of the government through elections and pro-western forces in power. This is the prospect that Georgia has,” said Giorgi Vashadze, leader of the Strategy Aghmashenebeli party.
According to Giorgi Vashadze, the US proposal of an economic and security support package means more investments and jobs.
“Visa-free travel is a truly unprecedented proposal, and economic support means billion-worth investments, strengthening defence capabilities, and more job openings. It is a result of thousands of Georgians protesting in the streets and the peaceful efforts of youngsters observed by the entire world. We need to change the government to achieve that. Georgia should return to its Western development course. There should be no Russian laws and no anti-Georgian regime,” he said.
Vashadze believes that Georgia should get these benefits.
“I am interested in the response of the Georgian Dream MPs. Do they still plan to divert Georgia from the western development path and surpass this perspective for Georgia? National consolidation, change of the government through elections and pro-western forces in power are the prospects that Georgia has. Representatives of those people, who stand in the street and continue peaceful protest should come into power together with the European Union membership, and we can make a big development leap. It is the way to territorial integrity, development and a strong, united Georgia, which we all want so much,” he said.
Washington could sign off on a sweeping package of economic and security support for Georgia if its government abandons its increasingly anti-Western rhetoric and stops backsliding on human rights, POLITICO reported on May 20.
