Strategy Aghmashenebeli leader doubts GD's fulfillment of EC recommendations

Give us a chance, and all nine EC’s conditions will be fulfilled in the shortest possible time, Giorgi Vashadze, leader of the Strategy Aghmashenebeli party, stated.

“The first step has been taken. Georgia received a positive recommendation for candidate status. European Union did not leave us face-to-face with Russia. However, we should fulfil these nine prerequisites,” he added.

Vashadze called the upcoming 2024 elections geopolitical elections, determining the country’s future.

He said he is skeptic that the GD will fulfill the nine recommendations and added, “give us a chance, and all nine conditions will be fulfilled in the shortest possible time.”

Olivér Várhelyi, European Commissioner for Neighbourhood and Enlargement, on November 8, said that the Commission recommends the Council to grant Georgia the status of candidate country on the understanding that further steps are taken on fighting disinformation, on alignment with CFSB, improving implementation of parliamentary oversight, addressing the issue of political polarization, de-oligarchization and anti-corruption.
