Strategy Aghmashenebeli: Georgia’s candidate status, even with caveats, signals to Russia that Georgia not staying under Russian influence
Paata Manjgaladze, opposition Strategy Aghmashenebeli party member, said that the ruling Georgian Dream (GD) party almost failed to fulfil the 12-point recommendations, and the Western partners will hardly get deceived.
However, Georgia should receive the EU candidate status with caveats.
“Georgia may have the candidate status, maybe with caveats, and that would be a message to Russia that Europe will not abandon Georgia under Russian influence. Our Western partners should assist us even under the background of the anti-western campaign that the Georgian Dream wages on a daily basis,” he said.
The European Commission will hear an oral assessment of Georgia’s progress in the EC’s recommendations’ implementation in the coming days.
