State Security Service detains Murtaz Zodelava alongside UNM's Khabeishvili
The State Security Service (SSSG) has detained Murtaz Zodelava, a member of the Political Council of the United National Movement opposition party, alongside Levan Khabeishvili.
According to the State Security Service, Zodelava was apprehended as he attempted to flee the scene of Levan Khabeishvili’s detention in an effort to hide Khabeishvili’s phone.
“During the arrest of Levan Khabeishvili, Murtaz Zodelava was also taken into custody. Khabeishvili immediately handed him his mobile phone after the arrest. Zodelava attempted to flee in an effort to conceal the phone and physically resisted the officers of the Anti-Corruption Agency, during which he assaulted one of them. His conduct is classified under Article 353 of the Criminal Code, which stipulates a prison sentence of two to five years. The State Security Service will continue to prioritise operational and investigative efforts to identify and prevent crimes against the Georgian state, particularly those of a corrupt nature,” the SSSG stated.
For your information, the State Security Service recently arrested Levan Khabeishvili, a member of the Political Council of the United National Movement, on charges of publicly promising monetary bribes to officials.
