State fully financed 2,200 births using DRG model, Deputy Health Minister says

“Over the past month, the state has fully financed 2,200 births using the DRG model,” announced Ilia Ghudushauri, Deputy Minister of Health.

He highlighted the success of the reform, stating that the tariffs are effective and acceptable to all provider clinics.

“Previously, the funding for physiological births was 500 GEL, and for cesarean sections, it was 800 GEL. However, clinics could charge additional fees, leaving mothers with additional expenses. The new DRG model ensures full financing of these births, eliminating the need for additional charges,” he stated.

The deputy minister mentioned that the ministry has been collaborating with clinics, doctors, and associations for several months. During this period, clinics were requested to provide detailed information regarding their expenses. Based on this cooperative effort, a new GEL 1,220 tariff was determined.
