“The Anti-Corruption Agency of the State Security Service of Georgia interrogated former Prime Minister Irakli Garibashvili. He cooperated fully with the investigation and admitted to receiving illegal income over the years,” the State Security Service of Georgia (SSSG) announced at a briefing.

According to the SSSG, in the coming days, the investigation will determine the legal qualification of the case against him and decide on an appropriate preventive measure, based on both existing and newly obtained evidence.

“As you are aware, intensive and comprehensive operational and investigative measures are ongoing regarding various criminal cases. These have included searches of multiple residences, including those of former high-ranking political officials and individuals associated with them, conducted over the past few days.

As you may recall, a briefing was held earlier today at the Prosecutor General’s Office concerning one of these criminal cases and the person detained as a result of the recent searches. We would also like to inform the public that today, former Prime Minister Irakli Garibashvili was interviewed by the Anti-Corruption Agency of the SSSG, during which he fully cooperated and admitted to receiving illegal income over the years.

In the coming days, the investigation will examine the legal aspects of the case and decide on a preventive measure, based on the available and newly acquired evidence, which will also be communicated to the public,” the SSSG stated.

On October 17, searches were carried out at the residences of former Prime Minister Irakli Garibashvili, former head of the State Security Service of Georgia Grigol Liluashvili, former Prosecutor General Otar Partskhaladze, and eight other individuals associated with them. The Prosecutor’s Office reported that various electronic devices, documents, and a substantial amount of cash were seized during these searches.
