SSSG: Georgian citizen unlawfully detained on December 5, 2025, released

A Georgian national, unlawfully detained near the occupied Tskhinvali region on December 5, 2025, has been released and brought to the territory controlled by the central authorities, the State Security Service of Georgia (SSSG) said.

According to the SSSG, the Georgian government regularly raised the issue of the unlawful detention of Georgian citizens during meetings of the Group on Incidents Prevention and Response Mechanisms (IPRM) and the Geneva International Discussions (GID).

The SSSG also used the hotline and all the available mechanisms. International partners were also involved in the negotiations.

“The central government, alongside international partners, continues to work actively to release all Georgian citizens being held in unlawful imprisonment across the occupied territories,” the SSSG said.
