SSSG: Georgian citizen released after illegal detention near occupation line
The State Security Service of Georgia (SSSG) stated that a Georgian citizen who was illegally detained by Russian occupation forces near the village of Bershueti in Gori Municipality on June 22 has been released and is now in territory controlled by the central government.
According to the SSSG, all relevant mechanisms available to the central authorities were actively used to secure the individual’s release, including the hotline mechanism operated by the European Union Monitoring Mission (EUMM) in Georgia.
“The State Security Service continues active efforts to ensure the release of all Georgian citizens who remain in illegal detention in the occupied territories,” the statement reads.
