SSSG: Georgian citizen illegally detained near Tsitelubani released

A Georgian citizen who was illegally detained near the village of Tsitelubani, Gori Municipality, on January 20, 2026, has been released and is now on the territory controlled by the central government, the State Security Service of Georgia reported.

According to the agency, all relevant mechanisms available to the central government were actively employed to secure the release of the illegally detained citizen.

“In addition, the issue was discussed at a meeting held within the Incident Prevention and Response Mechanism (IPRM).

The central government and the State Security Service continue to work actively to ensure the release of all Georgian citizens illegally detained in the occupied territories,” the statement said.
