SSSG: Former officer detained over 11,300 GEL fraud involving top security chief’s name

Officers from the Anti-Corruption Agency of the State Security Service of Georgia (SSSG) have detained an individual on charges of large-scale fraud following operational search and investigative activities.

According to an official statement released by the SSSG, the investigation established that a former law enforcement officer fraudulently took a total of 11,300 GEL on various occasions from the family members of two defendants being held in a penitentiary facility. In exchange for the money, the suspect promised to secure their release from prison and arrange a subsequent plea bargain. To execute the scam, the perpetrator used the names of the Head of the State Security Service, Geka Geladze, and Tsotne Ivanishvili, the son of the Honorary Chairman of Georgian Dream.

“The case is being investigated under Article 180, Part 3, Sub-paragraph ‘b’ of the Criminal Code of Georgia, which carries a prison sentence of six to nine years,” the SSSG statement read.
