SSSG detains Georgian citizen for espionage, transmitting information on behalf of foreign intelligence officers; reveals two more individuals involved in same crime

Officers of the Counter-Intelligence Department of the State Security Service of Georgia (SSSG), through conducting operative measures, detained one Georgian citizens for collecting and transmitting information on behalf of foreign intelligence officers.

According to the SSSG, the detained individual was instructed to collect information and make photo and video footage in the following areas: Georgian law enforcement agencies, State Security Service, Ministry of Internal Affairs, dislocation of Georgian Defence Forces, strategic facilities, including bridges, roads, and railway.

The counter-Intelligence Department also revealed two more Georgian citizens involved in the same crime.

The detained individual is charged with espionage under Article 314, Part 1 of the Criminal Code of Georgia, which provides for imprisonment for a term of eight to twelve years.
