SSSG arrests Georgian citizen for unlawful handling of radioactive metal Uranium

Officers from the Counter-Intelligence and Special Operations Departments of the State Security Service of Georgia (SSSG) have arrested a Georgian citizen for the unlawful handling of nuclear material, namely the radioactive metal Uranium, following a joint operation.

According to the SSSG, the investigation determined that the detained individual intended to sell the nuclear material Uranium-238 to a foreign citizen for USD 700,000.

The investigation is in progress under Article 230 of the Criminal Code of Georgia, which provides for a penalty of up to 10 years of imprisonment.
