The State Security Service of Georgia (SSG) says active efforts are underway to release Kristine Takalandze, a Georgian citizen unlawfully detained by the Abkhazian occupation regime.
“Regarding the illegal detention, the State Security Service immediately activated the hotline and informed the EU Monitoring Mission and the co-chairs of the Geneva talks. Active work is underway, and all available mechanisms are being used to release the Georgian citizen from illegal imprisonment. Illegal detentions complicate the daily life of the local population and damage the security environment,” the SSG said in its statement.
Kristine Takalandze, 24, a Georgian citizen of Nabakevi village in Gali district, a predominantly ethnic Georgian area, was accused of spying by the so-called security service of Russian-occupied Abkhazia on July 25. She was detained on July 20 during a special operation at her home. Under Article 274 of the Abkhaz criminal code, Takalandze faces ten to fifteen years of imprisonment for violating the so-called constitution and the “state” of Abkhazia.
